On this episode of You Don’t Know Flack, I talk about the earliest restaurant I can remember — one that serves Big Macs, Filet-o-Fish, Quarter Pounders, French Fries, icy Cokes, thick shakes, sundaes, and apple pies. Yes, I’m talking about McDONALDS! This episode is filled with stories, memories, and more than a few soundbites.

Cool episode! In the 80s we only had one McDonalds that we visited a couple of times that had a McDonalds playground about half-way to Myrtle Beach beach as a kid. You totally jogged my memory on the Big Mac head guy. I remember feeling very claustrophobic after cramming into it even at like 9-10 years old! I want to say the same location also had this section by the outdoor playground that had a couple of statues of McDonald’s characters in a square fountain. When we returned years later only the fountain and statues remained.
Our local Hardee’s actually had a slide more dangerous than the one at McDonald’s! It was a rocket shaped metal structure with an enclosed steel ladder that you crawled up to enter a cage at top to access the slide. It would get super hot inside and you are gonna get hurt bad if you slip off that ladder!
My cousin introduced me to chicken McNuggets. Apparently it was all he ever got there which seemed completely alien to me at the time! I liked them so much that it then became a dilemma after that every time I got a happy meal if it was going to be with a cheeseburgers or nuggets.
When I was a kid my kindergarten group I think it was got to take a tour of the kitchen as well and I recall thinking how awesome it was to pour my own small Dr. Pepper from the automated fountain. Back then there was a button for each size drink.
