As a kid, the period of time between Thanksgiving and Christmas was spent making Christmas wish lists, and many of the entries on those lists came from window shopping at the mall. Tune in to hear about the birth of one of then largest malls in America, my memories of shopping there, and the event that marked the mall’s demise.

I really enjoyed listening to this one today while doing yard work!
Many of the descriptions and stores you mention from the early period were very similar to Hanes Mall in Winston-Salem.. even down the the brownish floors and black trim, and the “fountain pit” area.
We had Aladdin’s but your arcade sounded MUCH better. The description too of the darker sections in the back strangely remind me of an arcade I have dreamt of a few times but have never visited in real life.
